Man convicted of indecent assault; seven to be sentenced this week

    BASSETERRE, St. Kitts - A 33-year-old male was yesterday, (July 17) found guilty by a 12-member jury of two counts of indecent assault on a minor.

     

    The case began on Monday (July 16) with Junior Counsel Garth Wilkin leading the Prosecution team while the convict stood unrepresented.

     

    According to the facts brought out in Court, the convict, during the period January 1 to December 31, 2009 and on February 6, 2010, put peanut butter on his genitals and had the minor, his daughter, remove it with her mouth.

     

    The child, at the time of the incidents was just seven years old and the incidents were said to have been committed in Basseterre.

     

    After the prosecution rested its case, the convict called a former girlfriend to testify on his behalf.

     

    The man, now convicted, faces a possibility of up to 10 years imprisonment.

     

    In other Court news, the seven individuals who were scheduled to be sentence last week, would be appearing tomorrow (July 19) for their judgment.

     

    The persons being sentenced are Elroy 'Stanny' Williams, Junior ‘Q’ Sobratie, Curtis Long, Delvin 'Stoby' Francis and George 'Naddy' Welsh who pleaded guilty to robbing 17 tourists at Brimstone Hill on November 14, 2010.

     

    Also to be sentenced is Denrick Jeffers who was, earlier in the Assizes, convicted of raping a certain female in Basseterre on May 17, 2011, and Marlon Kelly who pleaded guilty to burglary which was committed at Boyds on 12 January, 2010.

     

    The May 2012 Criminal Assizes is also expected to close this week.
