BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – THE Federation has recorded its third road fatality for the year following a two-vehicle accident that occurred last night (July 28) in Cayon Village.

Dead is June ‘Paco’ Nolan of Sandy Point.

According to Head of Traffic Department Inspector Cromwell Henry, Nolan was killed at about 8:30 p.m. while on the Island’s Main Road in Cayon.

He noted that the incident occurred when motorcar PA 5457, driven by Vance Archibald of Upper Cayon, and motor jeep PA 6031, driven by Warren Bradshaw Jr., collided on the island’s Main Road.

“Investigations revealed that PA 5457 was travelling from Molyneaux to Cayon when it collided with the pedestrian. Shortly after, PA 6031 which was travelling in the same direction ran over the pedestrian. She was pronounced dead at the scene by the District Medical Officer Dr. Garfield Alexander,” Henry said.

He also said that both drivers were taken into police custody and that Archibald was subsequently charged with driving without insurance and driving an unlicenced vehicle.

Henry further said that an autopsy would be performed to determine the cause of death and that investigations are ongoing.

This is the third road fatality for the year.

The first one was that of two-year-old Janiah Johnson who on Sunday (Feb. 19) succumbed to head and stomach injuries at the JNF Hospital following a two-vehicle smash up on the Kim Collins Highway.

And the second one occurred on Friday (June 29) at the junction of Wellington Road and Florence Nightingale Lane, New Pond Site, where Tyrone Fyfield of Newtown who was riding motorbike was involved in an accident with an omnibus.

He also succumbed to his injuries after a six-hour battle to save his life at the JNF Hospital.
