BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – POLICE are investigating a shooting incident that has left a young man nursing injuries at the JNF Hospital.

A release from the Police Press and Public Relations Office, which has no name of the shooting victim, the extent of injuries and the time when the incident occurred, stated, “Police officers of Cayon, CID, Delta, SSU and Crime Scene Unit responded to a report of a shooting at Central Alley in Cayon on Saturday 28 July 2012.”

It stated that initial investigation revealed that one young male was injured in the incident and investigations are ongoing.

“Anyone who has information pertaining to this incident is asked to contact the CID at 465 2241 ext. 220, 230 or the nearest police station,” it added.

Investigations by this media house revealed that the shooting victim is Leon Griffin who hails from Zion Village in Nevis but is reportedly residing in Molineux.

The investigations also revealed that the incident had involved more than one gunman or one man with two firearms, because two different types of ammunition were used in the shooting, based on the spent shells found at the scene.

This is not the first time that Griffin has been the victim of a shooting incident.

On Tuesday, March 18, 2008, Griffin and Terrence ‘Bol’ Wharton were shot while in the Upper Cayon area.

Reports suggested that the assailants drove to the area in an unmarked vehicle and started shooting at the men while walking from Upper Cayon to Lower Cayon.

Griffin was shot twice in the leg and Wharton once to his left leg, which has since been amputated.

Also, in the past, Griffin had run-ins with the law.

The first reported run-in occurred on Tuesday, January 16, 2007 when he was arrested and charged with a wounding offence committed two days earlier; while the second one was on May 27, 2007 when he was charged with larceny committed on May 2 in the same year.
