    ROADTOWN Tortola BVI, July 31st, 2012 – The Ministry of Communications and Works is ready to move forward with the rehabilitation programme that will restore the Territory’s infrastructure which was impacted in 2010 by subtropical storm Otto.

     

    At the ceremony held yesterday to launch the Infrastructure Rehabilitation Project, Minister for Communications and Works the Honourable Mark Vanterpool stated that the ministry has already developed a comprehensive infrastructural framework which will include, “road improvement, bridge structures, retaining structures, drainage solutions, erosion control, sea defence, ports development, building construction, water supply, sewerage management, project costing, and contractor competency.
     
    More specifically Honourable Vanterpool explained that the most critical areas will be addressed first, especially on the islands of Tortola, Virgin Gorda, and Jost Van Dyke
     
    Minister Vanterpool reminded, “As Minister given the responsibility to carry out infrastructural works, my team and I at the Ministry intend to execute a comprehensive, sound, long lasting programme of works over the next 3 years... The planning stages for this project are just about completed.”
     
    The Premier and Minister of Finance noted in his remarks that it is important for Virgin Islanders to contribute to the building and design of meaningful structures that can withstand natural and manmade challenges.
     
    Dr. Drexel Glasgow will be the Project Coordinator and there will be a subcommittee comprising a multi-agency team.
     
     
     
    The project staff participated in a two-day Procurement Training, which ended today, focus on the expectations and procedures of the works to be completed.
     
    The project is a joint venture between the Government of the Virgin Islands and Caribbean Development Bank (CDB), where $15,672,000 will be infused into the economy to improve the Territory’s infrastructure thereby improving the standard of living for all.
     
    The Ministry of Communication and Works is committed to continued development and maintenance of the Territory’s public infrastructure.
