Craddock Road man convicted for battery on police; juvenile for ganja possession

    BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – A man from Craddock Road in Nevis has paid a significant price for twice violating the law while a juvenile on St. Kitts was ordered to find gainful employment.

     

    At the Charlestown Magistrate’s Court in Nevis, Javier Sutton was convicted and fined a total of EC$3 000 for battery on police and obstruction.

     

    For battery on police, he was fined EC$2 000 which is to be paid by Wednesday (Aug. 8) or, if in default, serve one month at Her Majesty’s Prison; and for obstruction, he was fined EC$1 000, which is also to be paid by August 8 or be imprisoned for one month.

     

    Both offences were committed at Marion Heights on Wednesday (Aug. 1).
     
    And at the Basseterre Magistrate’s Court, a juvenile was convicted for possession of cannabis with intent to supply and was placed on probation for six months with one surety.

     

    The magistrate told him that he is to keep the peace and be of good behaviour, gave him a curfew and ordered him to find gainful employment. The offence was committed on Thursday, April 12, 2012.

     

    Meanwhile, a police release states that eight persons, including a juvenile, were arrested and charged for the crimes they allegedly committed.

     

    Sylvester Harris of Conaree Village was charged for building breaking with intent, which was committed at the General Post Office on the Bay Road in Basseterre between Thursday, July 26 and Friday, July 27, 2012.

     

    On the morning of Friday, July 27, 2012, this publication was informed that DuPont’s Jewelry Store, located at the Pelican Mall, was broken into and a large quantity of jewels was stolen.

     

    Investigations revealed that the Philatelic Bureau and Internet Café, which is also located in the Pelican Mall, was the entrance the thieves used to get inside the Mall.

     

    An employee at the General Post Office said that when they reported for work that morning at around 7:00 a.m., they noticed the back door of the Philatelic Bureau was open.

     

    The employee said that the thieves used the back door to enter the Mall and were able to break a dead bolt on the door.

     

    SKNVibes was also told that one of the locks on the mail sorting door was damaged but nothing was reportedly stolen.

     

    The thieves made their way upstairs the Philatelic Bureau and Internet Café and climbed through a window which leads into the Pelican Mall where several stores are located.

     

    DuPont Jewelry was the only store that was reportedly broken into.

     

    There was also a window at the upstairs of the Philatelic Bureau that was broken from the outside of the building.

     

    Also charged were Paul Irish of Conaree Village and Kenrick Thomas of West Bourne Ghaut. Irish was charged with larceny and receiving, committed on Thursday Aug. 2); while Thomas was charged with unlawful possession, also committed on Aug. 2.

     

    Damien Smith was charged with forgery, committed on Monday, May 21, 2012, and Oman Williams of lower Monkey Hill was charged with house breaking and larceny, committed on Friday (July 27), while Travis Francis of Old Road was charged for driving without insurance and driving unlicenced vehicle, committed on Tuesday (July 24).

     

    And a juvenile was charged with possession of cannabis, committed on Friday (Aug. 3), while Chester Hodge Williams of Basseterre was charged with forgery of St. Kitts-Nevis passport, which was committed on Saturday, April 5, 2012.
