BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – THREE men were sentenced to jail with hard labour for crimes ranging from illegal entry to escaping lawful custody, while another was placed on a six-month bond to keep the peace.
A press release from the Police Public Relations Office states that Omax Shamarie Bye, who was charged for illegally entering the twin-island Federation of St. Kitts and Nevis on September 9, 2011, appeared at the Basseterre Magistrate’s Court on Monday (Aug. 13) and was convicted and sentenced to serve seven months with hard labour at Her Majesty’s Prison.
Also appearing at the Basseterre Magistrate’s Court on Monday was Damian Smith of Janet Alley, Basseterre. He was charged with escaping lawful custody, committed on September 19, 2011 and was convicted and sentenced to one month imprisonment with hard labour.
At the District ‘B’ Magistrate’s Court, Clarrisa Gumbs, who is also known as Bevon and 50 cent, of Gibbons Hill in Dieppe Bay, was on Monday (Aug. 13) convicted of malicious damage and sentenced to serve a 14-day jail term with hard labour.
He had committed the offence in Saddlers Village on December 20, 2011.
Pond’s Pasture resident Auville Noland was found guilty of threatening language at the District ‘B’ Magistrate’s Court on Monday (Aug. 13). The offence was committed in Half Way Tree on November 21, 2011 and he was convicted and placed on a bond to keep the peace for six months in the sum of EC$2 000.
The release also states that Neil Merritt of Pines garden, Shadwell Project was charged with battery; an offence he allegedly committed on Monday (Aug. 13).
Meanwhile, the Police Traffic Department had issued 21 tickets for various traffic violations committed on Monday (Aug. 13) in areas on the Bay Road, Circus and Fort Street.
The tickets were issued driving without seat belt, using cellular phones while driving, failing to stop at designated areas and failing to comply with traffic signs.
In its continued effort to enhance safety on the roads, the Traffic Department is encouraging drivers to follow the traffic regulations to ensure the safety of all road users.
