Parcel misses target by 5,300 miles

Press Release

August 16th, 2012    --  A parcel addressed to a property in the West Indies has arrived at a Peterborough woman’s home, mysteriously containing paperwork for an undelivered package for her.

Clyna Merchant (52), of Lessingham, Orton Brimbles, has been left baffled as to how a parcel meant for an address 5,300 miles away in Charlestown, Nevis, in the Caribbean, has arrived at her home.

The box has on its surface a form containing her details her step-father completed and watched post office staff attach to a different package in Florida, she says.

Ms Merchant was meant to receive some souvenir T-shirts, toiletries, sweets and a calendar, but instead received men’s clothing, deodorant and a multi-function travel kit including four bladed items.

To add to the confusion, there was another customs declaration form with Ms Merchant’s details on it inside the box, suggesting it had been opened at some point, and her step-father and mother have established while the parcel had been sent from someone living in Florida, it came from a different post office.

Mr Merchant, who has taken her complaint to Parcelforce Worldwide, said: “How could it get from there to here without anyone realising the two sets of details didn’t match?”

Parcelforce Worldwide spokesman Nick Martens said: “We have since been in contact with our customer and are investigating as to where her parcel is. The initial parcel was delivered to her because the documentation had her address very clearly listed as the intended destination.”
