BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – IN the bold display of thievery, a young man successfully executed his plan to pilfer name brand sunglasses from a store at Port Zante, but the fact that he was caught on camera has earned him the title ‘Sunglasses Bandit’.

The store – Duty Free Plaza, located on the ground floor of the building that houses Scoops - was the place of execution of the plan. And according to information reaching this publication, the bandit stole two pairs of Ray-Ban Shades valued at US$420 or approximately EC$1 134.

The act was committed on Thursday (Aug. 16) shortly after 1:00 p.m.

The perpetrator entered the establishment and, according to video footage which this publication received, waited until the sales representatives were engaged before making his way to the Ray-Ban racks.

When he got there, the man – tall, dark skinned, donning a dark shirt and short pants with a tote bag slung across his body – removed one pair of the eyewear from the rack and stuffed them quickly into the right front pocket of his trousers. He repeated then this act before exiting through the store’s main entrance.

The sales representatives – realising that the slots on the rack were empty and knowing that they had made no Ray-Ban sales during a specific period, checked the video footage and realised that the store had been a victim of the Sunglasses Bandit.

SKNVibes understandsthat the incident was reported to the police who have since commenced investigations into the theft.

Duty Free Plaza is offering a reward to anyone who provides information that can lead to the arrest of the perpetrator and or recovery of the stolen items.
