Basseterre, St. Kitts, August 11th 2012  --  The Peaceful World Movement embarks on a follow-up mission after their February 2012 Feasibility Consultation aimed at exploring ways to use the framework of the Peaceful World Movement to assist with crime, violence, and delinquency related issues in the Federation of St. Kitts and Nevis. Executive Director of the Peaceful World Movement, Dominica born and Chicago based Criminologist and Sociologist, Dr. Peter K. B. St. Jean will be in the Federation from August 18th to 22nd 2012; his visit is prompted by an invitation from Daniel McMullen of Operation Future with whom Dr. St. Jean has been in close collaboration since the February visit.

Since his February visit, Dr. St. Jean has been serving as an advisor to Operation Future, while Daniel McMullen has been assisting the criminologist with gathering research data and generating ideas to complete his recommendations for crime reduction and peace development in the Federation. Dr. St. Jean has also maintained follow-up research contacts with members of New Mentality Team Club, and other persons interviewed during the February visit.

Dr. St. Jean will participate in Operation Future's conference entitled “A Community Based Approach to Desistance, Intervention and Rehabilitation in the Criminal Justice System”, on the upcoming visit. Based on his work in Dominica over the last 16 years, in the US over last 15 years, and in collaboration with persons in St. Kitts over the last 6 months, Dr. St. Jean will conduct a presentation entitled, “What is Necessary to Reduce Criminal Recidivism especially among hardcore Criminality.”

When asked why he believes Dr. St. Jean's Peaceful World Movement’s intervention will be useful to the conference and to Operation Future's follow-up action plan, Mr. McMullen stated, “In our planning for our conferences Operation Future seeks to attract the most qualified people possible that can present to the Federation a blend of academic knowledge and practical experience”.

He added, “in addition we seek those who share our position that crime is commonly the symptom of a deeper problem and believe in developing long term, proactive holistic solutions that involve the entire community”. McMullen stressed that “the goal of our conferences is to educate and to conclude with practical and sustainable strategies that can be implemented in the Federation, and facilitators such as Dr. St Jean in his work in the Peaceful World Movement and in the St Leonard Ministries embody his philosophy”.

The conference is expected to produce action plans aimed at boosting desistance, intervention and rehabilitation in the criminal justice system of the Federation, with implications for other nations in the Caribbean region, and beyond.
