11 City Drug Store’s employees made redundant

Church’s Chicken to occupy part of City Drug Store space

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – AFTER much work at redeployment, the TDC Group of Companies has indicated that the number of persons being made redundant as a result of the closure of specific operations of the City Drug Store 2005 Ltd (CDS) has been reduced to 11.

Human Resource Manager for the Group Dennis ‘Freddie’ Knight told SKNVibes that, originally, about 27 persons were to have been made redundant but that number has since dropped with the others being absorbed into other businesses within the Group.

It was only in mid-July that rumours began circulating about the closure of CDS and Knight clarified that the entire business would not be closing but only the pharmacy and related operations, including the sale of beauty supplies etc.

He indicated that the other sections which fall under the CDS banner – grand rentals, business equipment and the copy centre – would remain in operation.

Knight informed this publication that most of the staffers who were to have been made redundant were relieved of active duty as of last weekend and others would be relieved by the ending of this month.

This publication visited the establishment sometime last week and recognised that a portion of the space had been cleared and the Copy Centre shifted closer to the front of the business.

This – coupled with rumours of negotiations for a fast food joint to occupy that space – peaked SKNVibes’ interest.

Church’s Chicken to occupy part of CDS space

Chairman of the TDC Group of Companies Michael Morton confirmed to this publication that Church’s Chicken – which is scheduled to begin operations in St. Kitts in December 2012 – would be occupying a portion of the CDS space.

“They will be occupying half of the space. As you heard, we are using just a little over half of the space for our business centre and the other space is being rented. It will be rented from before but they will be renovating and doing the necessary work in preparation for opening in December.”

The Chairman noted that with the opening of Church’s Chicken, there are opportunities for employment of those who would have been made redundant from CDS.

“They have been gracious enough to accept the names of all those who have an opportunity to seek employment there. The necessary references have already been given.”
