BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – NINE security guards at Alpha and Omega Security Solutions (AOSS) have graduated from undergoing a two week course in Money Intensive Unit Training Course 01, on August 24.

The graduation ceremony was held at the Frigate Bay Hotel conference room in the presence of Minister of Homeland Security, Sam Condor, security officials and friends and family of the graduates.

The nine graduates to complete the course were Winston Clarke, Sinclair Herbert, Everad Johnson, Roderick Jones, Ellamorrow Levy, Judell Matthew, Leroy Nelson, Garnet Smithen and Julio Williams.

The award for overall best student went to Nelson while the award for best academic student went to Herbert.

Welcome remarks were delivered by General Manager of AOSS and former Deputy Commissioner of Police and Acting Commissioner, Meredith Charles, who said that because of his company’s intense interest in the security of the Federation it was important to hold such a course.

“It was quite enabling and feasible, to conduct this training course, calculated to equip private security officers with the skills and knowledge needed in the exercise of their duty.

“They will have self-confidence and the ability to deal with the public in a manner that is professional, civil and respectful, and impart a sound understanding of the job of private security in SKN society,” he said.

He said that the progress of the students throughout the course of training was checked by issuing them daily tests and progress examinations.

Managing Director of AOSS, Shawn Wigley said that the decision to conduct such a course was considered after deep reflection and consideration as they recognized that the security field is always evolving.

“As security professionals we have a responsibility to adopt a proactive approach, in order to ensure that the quality of services we provide are always at the highest standard and our personnel are trained and equipped with superior knowledge and information,” he said.

He said the training course commenced on August 13 and ran over a period of two weeks.

The students were lectured in a number of subjects, which include mental awareness, report and statement writing, body guard or close protection, court room procedure and giving evidence in court, bank robbery prevention and first aid.

They also had to undergo a field exercise that included a night out in the Springfield mountain where they underwent basic survival ethics.

Deputy Prime Minister Condor commended and congratulated the graduates for completing the course and on their commitment.

“Security is becoming an increasingly important aspect of our way of life and we congratulate you on your graduation, believing that you’ve benefitted tremendously from this training that you have undertaken,” he said.

The graduates also did a course display outdoors where they protected a dignitary while the others were fending off bad guys who were trying to get to the dignitary.
