ROADTOWN Tortola BVI, September 11th, 2012  – Minister for Education and Culture Honourable Myron V. Walwyn whose portfolio includes prisons visited Her Majesty’s Prison today and was briefed on the escape of a Dominican Republic national, 38 year old Mr. Eduord Bueno Beltran, who was discovered missing this morning.

Minister Walwyn was briefed by the Superintendent of Prisons Mr. Richard Holder. Honourable Walwyn toured the facility, visited the cell of the missing inmate and was shown the part of the perimeter fencing, which was cut, presumably to facilitate the escape. That area in the fence has since been welded.

Earlier today, Minister Walwyn spoke with His Excellency the Governor, Mr. Boyd McCleary, CMG, CVO regarding the missing inmate and pledged to work with all the relevant authorities on this matter.

The Ministry of Education and Culture will work in unison with the authorities and pledges its full support to prevent the reoccurrence of all such incidences. Every effort is being made to ensure that measures are being put in place to facilitate additional monitoring and security.

The Ministry is asking persons to contact the Royal Virgin Islands Police Force non-emergency number 311 to relay any information on this matter.
