BASSETERRE, St Kitts; 8 September 2012: MRS. SEPHLIN LAWRENCE is the Director and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the St. Kitts & Nevis Social Security Board. She started her career in Jamaica, where she held a number of positions including Assistant Accountant at Island Life Insurance Co. Ltd, Assistant Accountant at the Insurance Company of the West Indies, and Financial Controller at the Jamaica Teachers Credit Union.
She then migrated to St Christopher & Nevis and took up the position of Accountant at the St. Kitts & Nevis Social Security Board in February 1983. She was promoted to Deputy Director at that institution in 1992, and then to her current position of Chief Executive Officer in 1996.
Mrs. Lawrence holds a Bachelor of Science (Honours) in Management Studies from the Mona Campus of the University of the West Indies and a Masters of Business Administration (MBA) in Finance from the Manchester Business School in the United Kingdom. She has also attended several international training programmes and workshops in a range of areas including management, finance, investments and Social Security operations.
She is the representative for the English–speaking Caribbean on the Permanent Committee of the Centre for American Studies (CISS) headquartered in Mexico. Additionally, she was recently elected as the Representative for the Caribbean at the International Social Security Association (ISSA) headquartered in Geneva.
Mrs. Lawrence is the Chairperson of the Regional Training Committee established by Social Security Institutions in Caribbean Community (CARICOM) to spearhead human resources development in Social Security Institutions throughout the Region. She also currently serves on the Board of Directors of the Eastern Caribbean Securities Exchange.
Mrs. Lawrence is married and has three daughters.
