BASSETERRE, St. Kitts - THE body of an unidentified woman, said to be in her 50s, was this morning (Sept. 22) found lying on the beach of Irish Town Bay Road near the War Memorial.

Police Public Information Officer (PIO) Inspector Lyndon David confirmed the find but stated that he could not provide much information at the time because they have not completed investigations into the matter.

SKNVibes learnt that the woman was seen lying in the water near the shore sometime after 6:00 a.m.

David also said that the name of the deceased would be withheld at this time and although it may appear that the woman might have drowned the police would have to await the results of a post mortem.

“Though you may have found a body in the water it does not necessarily mean that she may have drowned. That’s why it has to be examined carefully, and from their examination the qualified and competent person will be able to say,” the PIO said.

According to a source, the woman was allegedly a patient at the psychiatric ward of the Joseph N. France Hospital and is originally from Sandy Point.

This media house also learnt that the deceased used to braid tourists’ hair at Port Zante and was seen yesterday walking through the streets of downtown Basseterre.
