Who do you think should enter this year’s National Carnival Queen Pageant?

By: Suelika N. Creque, SKNVibes

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – IT is soon time for one of the most talked about events that is  part of our Carnival celebrations, the National Carnival Queen Pageant and as Kalia Huggins’ reign is near ending, speculation on a new set of Carnival Queen hopefuls begins.

Young women between the ages of 18-25 who meet the standard areas of the criteria are being asked to register.

SKNVibes also spoke with a number of persons who gave their suggestions on whom they think should be in the running.

The names that were suggested were Davina Cranstoun, Khyla Brown, Desi Brown and Mikielia Armstrong.

One young man said that Cranstoun had the experience as she had gone in for a number of pageants.

“She is a very talented dancer and actor. I think she will win,” he said.

Mikielia Armstrong popularly known as ‘Mimi’; many see her as having a winning personality.

“She has a great personality and has talent,” said Da’vid Blake.

Another young lady also said that they believe Armstrong would make a great contestant in this year’s show.

A female thought that Khyla Brown possessed all the qualities to be in the pageant even though they were not quite sure she had reached the required age of 18.

“Kyhla Brown should enter! She sings, she dances, she acts, she models and she’s a bright girl,” she said.

Another young man suggested Brown’s sister.

“Someone with a good character and can speak and has talent, also someone with good mannerisms, someone who can express themselves and I think Desi Brown is that person. She’s very talented and has a down to earth character,” he said.
A resident of Nevis, speaking with SKNVibes about anyone from the sister isle (Nevis) who would make a good contestant, ), stated that  he did not believe there were any good contenders this year.

“I don’t think so, the contestants in the recently held Miss Culture Queen, need some more coaching in preparation to enter the National Carnival Queen Pageant if they are to capture the crown or even place in the top three,” he said.

Several persons also said that it was difficult for them to think of anyone who they deemed as a good contestant.

However, many great chaperones would advise that if one was interested in entering the National Queen Pageant, she should have started preparing for it an entire year in advance.

“It’s no easy walk in the park; there’s a lot to be done and if one truly wants to be successful, she has to make sure she is prepared to put in the work mentally and physically. I also would advise prospective contestants to go to the pageants and view the show and start their preparations as early as January,” one chaperone said.
