St. Martin, October 1st, 2012   -- The Third World band, one of reggae’s storied acts, headlines the AGD celebrations in St. Maarten on Friday September 28. The show which is part of the annual Arthur Guinness Day is being celebrated September 27-29 throughout the Caribbean also features Percy Rankin and the Bonfire Band & ShadowMan.

Similar events showcasing the region’s leading performers take place in Jamaica, Bahamas and Guyana, Jamaica being the first to kick off the celebrations which took place on Thursday September 27 at the National Indoor Sports Arena. For many Guinness adorers, this was an unforgettable experience as they enjoyed blazing performances from Sizzla, Popcaan, Mavado and Trinidadian Soca sensations Destra Garcia and Kerwin Du Bois.

Guinness lovers across the Caribbean including Trinidad, St. Lucia, Antigua, and St. Vincent and the Grenadines, shared in the festivities, dubbed ‘Made For More’, via satellite.

Led by founding member, guitarist Steven ‘Cat’ Coore, Third World maintains a hectic recording and touring schedule. Next year, the band celebrates its 40th anniversary, having formed in Kingston, Jamaica in 1973 at the emergence of roots-reggae.

After making a name on the Jamaican club and hotel scene, Third World signed to Island Records in 1976 and had the distinction of opening for the hot Bob Marley and the Wailers on their British tour that summer.

One of their concerts with Marley was the now historic date at the Lyceum Theatre in London which is captured on the reggae legend’s 1976 Live album. That year, Third World released their self-titled debut album which yielded the hit song, ’96 Degrees in the Shade’.

They went on to score massive hits with ‘Now That we Found Love’, ‘Always Around’, ‘Reggae Ambassadors’, ‘Sense of Purpose’ and ‘Try Jah Love’. The latter was written by R&B superstar Stevie Wonder.

In addition to Coore, the band retains two members who figured in its enviable success of the 1970s and 1980s: Singer William ‘Bunny Rugs’ Clarke and bass player Richie Daley.

Jamaican acts Mr Vegas, I-Octane, Sizzla, Mavado and Popcaan, as well as Trinidadian soca stars Destra and Kerwin du Bois, are part of the 2012 Arthur Guinness Day which marks the achievements of the internationally-famous Irish drink.

The celebrations kicked off on Thursday September 27 at the National Indoor Arena in Kingston with featured acts being Sizzla, Popcaan, Destra and du Bois.

Mr. Vegas is the featured act for the Luna nightclub in Nassau on Saturday, September 29. That day, I-Octane rocks the GuyExpo stage in Georgetown, Guyana.

The Arthur Guinness Fund was established in 2009 as a part of the 250th anniversary celebrations commemorating the signing of a 9000-year lease on the St. James Gate Brewery in Dublin, Ireland. That is the world-famous drink’s most distinguished brewing location.

Arthur Guinness Day globally marks a toast to the Guinness legacy, representing a brand and it’s drinkers that are made of more, made to do more, and made for more greatness. It is held in reverence of the man who created the sacred world class beverage. Arthur Guinness’ legacy lives on through loyal drinkers from Dublin to London and Kingston.

Before the invention of the light bulb or the telephone, men and women were enjoying Guinness. The legacy began in a little town in Ireland in the 1700s. The visionary behind the legacy, Arthur Guinness, started a brewery in 1755 with his entire £100 inheritance. Four years later he moved to the city to start his own business, resulting in what is today, one of the biggest beer brands in the world.
