Vanessa Garraway: new acting deputy principal of ESHS

    ROADTOWN Tortola BVI, October 1st, 2012  – The student body of the Elmore Stoutt High School was this morning during General Assembly, introduced to their new Acting Deputy Principal Mrs. Vanessa Garraway.

    Mrs. Vanessa Garraway has been appointed to act as Deputy Principal of the Elmore Stoutt High School (ESHS) for a period of one year effective September 24.

     

    In the absence of the Mr. Wade Tobin, the Acting Principal of the school, who is currently admitted to and is undergoing treatment at Peebles Hospital, Mrs. Garraway will also manage the institution. Mrs. Garraway will be responsible for the oversight of the institution and all portfolio areas including academics.

     

    In an invited comment to the Department of Information and Public Relations Mrs. Garraway said that she is excited and looks forward to working with the faculty, staff and students as “we continually - Strive for Excellence”.

     

    Mrs. Garraway said that she is thankful that she has been afforded the opportunity to serve in this capacity and will do her utmost best in the performance of her duties.

     

    As part of this morning’s assembly, Mrs. Garraway also accepted a donation of reading material from the Sunshine Dancers Dance Troupe for the newly opened ESHS Library and Learning Resource Centre.

     

    Last Thursday, Acting Deputy Chief Education Officer Dr. Lavon Chalwell Brewley introduced Mrs. Garraway to the ESHS Faculty and Staff.

     

    Mrs. Garraway graduated from the then BVI High School now Elmore Stoutt High School in 1988 and pursued studies at the University of the Virgin Islands St. Thomas Campus.

     

    She later transferred to the Florida Atlantic University from which she graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics in December 1993.

     

    She returned to the Territory in 1994 and has spent the last 18 years as a teacher at both the primary and secondary levels.

     

    Her teaching career began at the Althea Scatliffe Primary School in January 1994. She transferred to the now Elmore Stoutt High School in September of that year and has been the Head of the Mathematics Unit for the last five years.

     

    While at the ESHS, Mrs. Garraway has served as the year head for forms two and three and has received professional training in Teacher Certification from the University of the West Indies. She brings vast amounts of knowledge to the post of Deputy Principal.

     

    The Ministry of Education and Culture welcomes the appointment of Mrs. Garraway to the post of Acting Deputy Principal of the Elmore Stoutt High School, the largest secondary institution in the Territory, as we continually “Strive to Create a Culture of Excellence.”
