Police determine mechanical/electrical failure as cause of Daniel’s car fire

By: Terresa McCall, SKNVibes.com

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – THE Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force has indicated that “possible mechanical or electrical failure” had caused the fire which consumed the personal vehicle of former Deputy Premier of Nevis, Hensley Daniel.

The vehicle – while parked in Daniel’s Prospect Terrace yard – caught fire at approximately 1:00 a.m. on Saturday (Sept. 29, a short period after he had parked it there and retired indoors.

Officers from the Police Force and the Fire Department were summoned to the scene and, according to a previously issued press release, investigations were conducted and foul play was ruled out as a possible cause of the fire.

A press release issued yesterday (Oct. 3) however, explained that the cause of the fire seems to be linked to the vehicle’s fuel filter.

“The Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force with the assistance of the Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms (ATF) agency and the Wilmington, North Carolina Fire Department, determined that the causation of the fire appears to be the result of a possible mechanical, or electrical failure in the area of the fuel filter on the passenger side portion of the engine compartment.”

The police communiqué declared that investigations into the matter is “closed” and reiterated that the fire was “accidental” as “no malicious intent (was) found”.
