BASSETERRE, St. Kitts, October 4th, 2012 (CUOPM) – The Wendy Challenger has been launched at the St. Kitts-Nevis-Anguilla National Bank.

Prime Minister and Parliamentary Representative for St. Christopher 6, which includes St. Paul’s, the Rt. Hon. Dr. Denzil L. Douglas on Thursday launched the Wendy Challenger Fire Victim Fund – 10253796.

“Last week Tuesday, Wendy together with her 3 daughters and one son – lost not only their home, but everything that they owned, when Wendy was called from her workplace (on the C.A.Paul Southwell Industrial Park) and was told to come home to find all that she owned was in smoke and fire,” said Prime Minister Douglas, who was attending the United Nations General Assembly at the time of the tragedy.

“It has been very, very difficult since then especially having no fixed definitive place of residence being sheltered by her mother and grandmother and other family members from time to time are assisting,” Dr. Douglas said.

Making a very strong appeal to “those with a charitable and giving spirit here in St. Kitts and Nevis and beyond,” Prime Minister Douglas called for assistance for the Wendy Challenger family “in their time of greatest need and make some form of contribution or assistance to relieve this family of the unfortunate suffering and we hope that this will be temporary and short-lived.”

“This morning, as the Parliamentary Representative for Wendy and her family, we made arrangements with the St. Kitts-Nevis-Anguilla National Bank and there we opened a fund – The Wendy Challenger Fire Victim Fund – and there is an account that has been established. The account number at the St. Kitts-Nevis-Anguilla National Bank is 10253796,” disclosed Prime Minister Douglas.

“The entire community of St. Paul’s and other citizens and residents of the communities of the constituency that I serves in the National Assembly express our profound regret at this most difficult time that is been experienced by the Wendy Challenger family of St. Paul’s,” said Prime Minister Douglas as he made the first donation to the fund.
