LIAT Is Assisting Toddlers: airline teams up with FDCC to help children

By: LIAT, Press Release

ST. JOHN’S, Antigua, October 07, 2012 – Regional airline LIAT has teamed up with the Foundation for the Development of Caribbean Children (FDCC) on an innovative project to help disadvantaged children across the Caribbean.

Effective Monday, October 8, customers onboard LIAT flights will be encouraged to donate their spare change/coins in specially provided envelopes in a campaign known as the “Sky’s the Limit.”

Corporate Communications Specialist Desmond Brown said LIAT is pleased to partner with the FDCC on the “Sky’s the Limit” campaign, adding that the airline welcomes the opportunity to give back to the region which has ensured its continuity and success for 56 years.

“The Sky’s the Limit campaign will allow visitors, many of whom fall in love with the region and desire to help, to contribute to our development in a manner that might seem simple, but has far-reaching implications,” Mr. Brown said.

“Caribbean leaders, key stakeholders and citizens in general all travel on LIAT, presenting a golden opportunity for the FDCC to get its message directly to those audiences, to further sensitize and garner support for their work.”

Launched in January 2012, the FDCC is the first indigenous non-profit foundation in the Caribbean dedicated to early childhood development. It builds on a 10-year platform of success created by the Caribbean Child Support Initiative, a programme that was introduced in 2002, dedicated to mainstream effective and high quality early childhood development and parenting support practices.

“The formation of this strategic partnership between LIAT and the FDCC is a ground-breaking effort and it provides an excellent opportunity for the people of the region through their donations to invest in our young children on a Pan-Regional basis,” FDCC Chairman Dr. Didacus Jules said.

“One of our major goals is to develop predictable and sustainable funding for children 0 to 5 years old in the Caribbean but particularly 0 to 3 and among those most socially and economically disadvantaged,” the FDCC Chairman explained.

The FDCC currently supports early childhood development programmes in Belize, Dominica, Grenada, St. Lucia and St. Vincent and the Grenadines but Dr. Jules said there is scope for expansion into other Caribbean territories.

LIAT and the FDCC hope to raise US$50,000 in the first year of the “Sky’s the Limit” campaign.
