Additional classrooms under construction on Anegada and JVD

    ROADTOWN Tortola BVI, October 10th, 2012  –  With an aim to continue to develop facilities that are conducive to learning, the Ministry of Education and Culture will create much needed classroom space on Anegada and Jost Van Dyke (JVD) to cater for the growth and development of the sister islands youngest students.

    A pre-school is being erected on Anegada on the grounds of the Claudia Creque Educational Centre and will house a large classroom, with male and female restroom facilities to care for the three to five year olds. Presently, 14 pre-school aged students occupy a classroom at the Claudia Creque Educational Centre.

     

    On Jost Van Dyke, additional classroom facilities are under construction upstairs the existing building on that campus. The new space will facilitate two classrooms, storage and an activity area.

     

    Minister for Education and Culture Honourable Myron V. Walwyn told the Department of Information and Public Relations that there is a need for students to have a proper facility to engage in learning activities.

     

    The Education Minister stated that, “Learning starts at infancy and continues throughout life. High quality early interventions have lasting effects on learning and motivation and the care for the youngest students in a safe and supportive environment will only cultivate their interest in learning which will lead to their future success.”

     

    Minister Walwyn said the proper foundation must be set from infancy to ensure that the developing brain is exposed to age appropriate surroundings so that the total child can be nourished and cared for.

    Both principals of the Claudia Creque Education Centre Mrs. Erma Vanterpool and Mrs. Marva Martin of the Jost Van Dyke school look forward to the completion of the new facilities.

     

    The construction of additional classroom facilities on Anegada and Jost Van Dyke are part of Government’s commitment to building a better Virgin Islands with sound educational facilities to nurture and develop from the youngest of the Territory’s residents.
