Car lands in drain after hitting omnibus

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – TWO drivers involved in a traffic accident this morning (Oct. 10) in Challengers Village luckily escaped injuries and no serious damage was caused to their vehicles.

At about 7:30 this morning, motor car PA5177 driven by Lesroy Wyatt of Sandy Point collided with motor omnibus H4898 driven by Bernard Patrick, before coming to a halt within a drain at the side of the Island's Main Road in Challengers Village.

PA5177 was travelling East from Sandy Point heading towards Basseterre when it hit the left side of H4898 which was travelling in the opposite direction.

According to Patrick, while driving west from Basseterre (going towards Sandy Point), he slowed down to help a friend who was parked on the opposite side of the road with a flat tyre when he saw PA5177 approaching him.

“He was trying to slow down but he was too close and he hit the front of the bus on the left side before he stopped in the drain," Patrick explained.

Wyatt explained that he “banked the corner” and saw the two buses and realised he could not avoid a collision, and so as to not hit the bus that had passengers standing next to it he swung to the other side of the road and hit the left-front of H4898.

While PA5177 had minor damage to its left front fender, bumper and windscreen, only the left front section of H4898 was damaged.
