By: SKNIS, Press Release

Basseterre, St. Kitts, October 16th, 2012 (SKNIS): When Honourable Earl Asim Martin, visited several older persons in Constituency #1 this week, he commended them on their contribution to nation-building.

Minister Martin who is the Parliamentary Representative for the area, took the opportunity to visit the oldest members of his constituency during the Month of Older Persons.  His ministerial colleagues will do likewise in their respective constituencies.

James Phipps of Taylor’s Village, who is 87 years old, was acknowledged for his contribution to national development.

“Mr. Phipps would have worked most of his life in the sugar industry, and so he moved from one community to the next,” Minister Martin noted.  “And I am sure, when he left – everyone knew him as a back-hoe or front-end loader driver with much experience.

We want to thank Mr. Phipps and his family and all who are associated with him for allowing him to contribute to nation building in the sugar industry that played a vital role in the overall economic development of the Federation of St. Kitts and Nevis.”

    Mr. Phipps graciously responded.

“Thanks to everybody for coming to assist me in my old age,” Mr. Phipps graciously responded.  “I have two more months to make 87.  I’m here asking the Lord to help me and I thank the Ministry for what they have done for me.   God bless you all, thanks very much.”

Minister Martin also visited Ismay Sweeney of George Street, Basseterre, who is 101 years old, and Alice Browne of John Street, Basseterre who is 99 years of age.
