BASSETERRE, St. Kitts - A Nevis man was yesterday (Oct. 25) found not guilty of engaging in unlawful carnal knowledge with a female under the age of 14.

The illicit act is said to have been committed on July 23, 2011 in Middle Island.

The trial began Wednesday (Oct. 24) with Rhonda Nisbett-Browne at the head of the prosecution team while the accused is being represented by Jason Hamilton.

The prosecution called five witnesses including the victim, a doctor and the investigating officer to give evidence on their behalf in an attempt to prove that on the said date, the accused journeyed from Nevis after connecting with the underage female through a social network, picked her up on a bus and took her to Middle Island to commit the crime.

However, the prosecution was unsuccessful in proving the unlawful act took place.

After resting their case, the accused opted not to testify but called one person to do so on his behalf.

The jury, after deliberation, brought back a 10-2 not guilty verdict.
