BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – A traffic accident that occurred yesterday afternoon (Oct. 25) could have resulted in more serious injuries to a Challengers’ resident. Thankfully, however, he only suffered minor ones but the vehicle he was driving was extensively damaged.

The incident occurred along Johnson Long Path (in the vicinity of Ross School of Nursing) and details indicate that it involved motor jeep PA5283, which is owned by Kristina Nolin of Frigate Bay but was being operated by Oscar Grant of Challengers.

According to information received from the Traffic Department, at approximately 1:15 p.m. while PA5283 was travelling westward along the Island’s Main Road, the driver encountered some difficulty during an attempt to overtake another vehicle.

He reportedly made an attempt to overtake a passenger bus and, having lost control of the vehicle, collided with a utility pole on the mountain side of the road – snapping it in two – before travelling a further distance and depositing on the seaside of the road.

SGT Calvin Amory of the Traffic Department told this publication that following the incident, the Emergency Medical Services was summoned to the scene and Grant was transported to the Joseph N. France General Hospital where he was treated for minor injuries and discharged.

His injuries included bruises and lacerations to his forehead, left forearm and upper lip.

The vehicle – however – was extensively damaged.

Investigations into the incident are ongoing.
