SKTU's Gender Committee Launches 'Myrna Hanley Cancer Awarness Project'

SKTU Press release

Basseterre, St. Kitts 26th October...  On Friday 26th October 2012, the St. Kitts Teachers' Union's Gender Committee launched the 'Myrna Hanley Cancer Awareness Project' at the Cayon High School as part of the union's month of celebration under the theme "Take A  Stand For Teachers!".

According to Yvette Herbert, Public Relation's Officer of the St. Kitts Teachers' Union, this project is of major significance to our organization as several of our colleagues have been affected and some continue to be affected by Cancer. It is imperative that we provide the necessary information, support and assistance to our colleagues and by extension to other citizens affected.

Ms. Herbert further stated, "Today we celebrated the life and legacy of Myrna Hanley by way of song, steel pan selection, prayers and praise and collectively echoed a message of HOPE.  Today, we stopped to remember our beloved colleague Myrna Hanley as well as other teachers who lost the fight to Cancer. We also offered prayers of Hope for teachers and other citizens who are currently faced with Cancer."

In his featured HOPE address, Mr. Ron Dublin Collins, President of the St. Kitts Teachers' Union declared the 'Myrna Project' officially launched.

"Today, we bring a message of HOPE! Today, we bring a message of renewed HOPE! This 'Myrna Project' will not only help to sensitize the public about this horrendous disease but will also provide free pre and post testing counselling as well as raise well needed funds to assist teachers affected by Cancer."

Chair of the SKTU's Gender Committee, Mrs. Lavern Collins implored the public to "embrace this project and contribute to this cause.  Help us to save our teachers and our nation. Join us as we permeate the country with our message of HOPE!!!"

To make monetary contributions or give intangible assistance to this project interested persons are asked to call our union's office at 465-1921.
