Lawmakers to debate 8 bills at Thursday’s National Assembly meeting

    BASSETERRE, St. Kitts, October 29th,  2012 (CUOPM) – Six bills will be introduced and read a first time at Thursday’s sitting of the St. Kitts and Nevis National Assembly.
     
    Five of those bills, along with three others which were introduced and read at earlier sittings of the lawmaking body will be debated.
    Prime Minister and Minister of Finance, Sustainable Development, Human Resource, Police and the Defence Force, the Rt. Hon. Dr. Denzil L. Douglas will seek leave to introduce and have read a first time, The Financial Services Regulatory Commission (Amendment) Bill, 2012; The Anti-Terrorism (Amendment) (No.2) Bill, 2012 and The Insurance (Amendment) Bill, 2012.
     
    Dr. Douglas will lead the debate on those three bills. He will also lead the debate during the Second Reading of The Confidential Relations (Amendment) Bill, 2012, which was introduced and read a first time during the September 29th 2012 sitting.
     
    Attorney General and Minister of Justice and Legal Affairs, the Hon. Patrice Nisbett will introduce and have read a first time, The Interviewing of Suspects for Serious Crimes, Bill, 2012. He will also lead the debate during the second reading.
     
    While Minister of Health, Social Services, Community Development, Culture and Gender Affairs will introduce and have read a first time, The Maintenance of Children Bill, 2012 at Thursday’s sitting, she will lead debate on the second reading on The Guardianship of Infants, Custody and Access to Children Bill, 2012 which had its introduction and first reading on 14th September 2012.
     
    Minister of Tourism and International Transport, Sen. the Hon. Richard “Ricky” Skerritt will introduce, have read a first time and lead the debate on The St. Christopher Air and Sea Ports Authority (Amendment) Bill, 2012.
     
    Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Immigration, Labour and Social Security will move the second reading of The OECS Supreme Court (Immunities and Privileges) Bill, 2012. This Bill was introduced and given a first reading at the 14th September 2012 sitting of the National Assembly.
