Lord Cut says he has the Master Plan for our National Debt

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – VETERAN Calypsonian, Devon Liburd, popularly known as Lord Kut is ready for Carnival 2012/13 with his new release ‘Master Plan’.

Albeit plans for this year’s celebration are not quite underway and some calypsonians and other participants of Carnival are still owed monies from the last celebration; many are wondering if there will be an actual Carnival this year.

However, Liburd said he would do his thing and not depend on the Committee.

“It used to be different; the type of people who used to run the Carnival before; they used to make sure Calypsonians got looked after. I could surely call on Mr. Melvin Edwards, he used to be the chairman before, Aubrey York who used to be the chairman, Sidney Osborne, and I even remember the late Fitzroy Bryant when he was the Minister, used to sit with us in the meetings and discuss with us. We also had Hugh Rawlins, the former Chief Justice, he was the sub-committee chairman for the calypso, and that is the caliber of men we had.

“They used to make sure we were taken care of, since Thomas Williams the erosion start, and ain’t gon stop right now. I train with these men I talk about and they are who inspire me; I been doing this thing for 40 years,” he said.

And with his usual clever and artistic commentaries through calypso, Liburd said his ‘Master Plan’ can help the National Debt.

“Everyone complaining, everyone got a problem. I got a cure,” he said.

In his song, Liburd sings about having the cure for the bad debt.

“Government renting private property, renting vehicles, no accountability, no transparency, they are contributing tremendously to the national debt, if these weren’t there, there would be no debt,” he said.

Liburd who has had hits in the past including ‘Only in St. Christopher’, ‘Sucking Labour Breasts’ and ‘Ho-mea’ said that everyday people would ask him if he will be singing during Carnival.

“People depend on the message. After singing in Carnival, I get jobs throughout the year, singing at parties, dinners and homes,” he said.

His second song is in dedication to the late ‘King Barkie’ who was from Tabernacle and passed away a few years ago.

“He’s very popular and his songs still play on the radio today. He had a lot of good messages and he’s very humorous. He had one called the ‘Brazier Factory’ when Labour was in power in the 70’s, where he said the government doing so well that now they having a brazier factory and that women wouldn’t have to send overseas to get bra anymore.

I’m looking forward to performing all over the island this year now that I have my own system, ‘specially to assist me,” he said.
