Basseterre, St.Kitts (Central Committee to Elect JP) -- People’s Action Movement Deputy Chairman and Constituency#2 candidate hopeful, Jonel Powell has now taken his quest for political office online. The 29 year old budding politician launched his official Facebook page today . The popular and charismatic Attorney at Law used his first post on the social networking site to highlight a quote by former Ethiopian Leader Emperor Haile Selassie I.
The first post stated, "“Throughout history, it has been the inaction of those who could have acted; the indifference of those who should have known better; the silence of the voice of justice when it mattered most; that has made it possible for evil to triumph.”
The page went live at 10:47am on Wednesday 30th October and by 6pm it had already drawn 150 likes. According to social media experts 150 plus likes in a matter of hours of a page going live for a locally based St.Kitts-Nevis page is great but for a politically related page it is phenomenal .
Powell recently announced and confirmed his intention to seek the People’s Action Movement’s candidacy for the very important Central Basseterre or Constituency#2 seat. The seat is currently held by Hon. Marcella Liburd. The seat was once held by the country’s esteemed first Prime Minister Rt Hon. Dr Sir Kennedy Simmonds between 1980 and 1995. The seat is considered by political pundits as a must win and very winnable seat for the Opposition party.
Powell’s announcement has caused quite a stir in Kittitian political circles and the level of response to his facebook page makes that quite evident.
