ST.GEORGE'S Grenada, October 31st, 2012 -- On behalf of the Political Leader of the New National Party Dr.the Hon. Keith Mitchell , the entire Executive and members wish to re-iterate our sympathy to the families and friends of those who would have lost loved ones during the passage of hurricane “ Sandy “ through Jamaica, Haiti , Cuba , The Bahamas and several U.S cities over the past several days.
We empathize with the Governments and people of these countries and we feel the pain and loss which they have sustained and suffered during the passage of this terrible hurricane.
We particularly empathize with our Grenadian brothers and sisters in the New York area and other U.S cities who have had to endure the trauma of this most devastating hurricane.
Our prayers and best wishes go out to each and every one of you in this time of great difficulty and discomfort. Meanwhile, the New National Party remembers the out pouring of support and assistance received from several countries after the passage of hurricanes Ivan and Emily in 2004 and therefore we are moved to lend whatsoever support and assistance we can offer.
The NNP has therefore issued a call to the Government of Grenada to extend our Party’s request for an urgent diplomatic note to be sent to all the countries affected, to first express our sadness and to extend our offer of man-power assistance.
The NNP recognizes its own limited resources , but we do acknowledge that the one resource which we unfortunately have at this time , is a very large un-employed number of persons who are willing to offer their man-power assistance to any of the affected countries.
As a people we remember gratitude and thankfulness in our own time of need and our people are conscious of that.
In this connection therefore, the NNP stands ready , willing and capable to lend its support in a time of any Natural disaster sustained by any country and although our means are small , our “ house” is a home, which will always be a source of refuge.
We therefore call upon the National Democratic Congress ( NDC ) Government to use its diplomatic channels through the Ministry of Foreign affairs , to kindly extend our offer and to request the necessary transportation arrangements through its diplomatic channels so that we may fulfill our desire in a time of need.
