NNP Concerned over continued loss of Jobs

ST. GEORGE'S Grenada October, 31st, 2012  --  The New national Party is extremely concerned over what is now considered to be unsettling  working arrangements  at the Gravel and Concrete Queens Park plant. The workers are being treated with gross un-fairness and a lack of care and consideration by the company’s management and Government.

We understand that these workers had agreed with Management that that they would sacrifice and forgo any salary increases and benefits over a three year period, in exchange for continued job security.

This agreement unfortunately was not upheld by the Company as they issued letters of dismissal to the workers last week, citing economic challenges being faced by the Company.

We have learnt only today Tuesday 30th. that due to the forceful action of the workers to demonstrate in the streets of St.George and at the Prime Minister’s office, the decision to send home the first batch of some fifty-five (55) workers on Monday 05th. November  was suspended for the time being.

This un-stabling situation is just another condition, resulting from the poor economic policies which this administration has pursued over the past four years.

The continued mis-management and lack of confidence which the Government has created as a result of its policy of hate, spite, victimization and punishment, have led to a condition of economic  paralysis.

The evidence of pompousness, pride and poor policy guidelines have resulted in the demise of hundreds of workers losing their jobs over the past four years . In this present situation  many  more persons will succumb to job loss as the struggling business community close their doors in record numbers while others struggle and crawl  under the pressure of economic stagnation and a lack of hope and confidence in this administration.

Not-withstanding this dilemma, which is all around us, the Prime Minister takes  comfort in his lofty and arrogant statement that “ no one will cheat him out of his full term in office “ while families suffer from being unable to meet their most basis needs , as providing food on the table.

In other words, “ while ROME burns , the fiddle continues to play sweet music to the ears of destruction.“

The New National Party is therefore issuing  another of its several calls to the Government, to urgently stem the tide of these deteriorating  conditions, in almost every sector of our country, because it has the potential to lead to severe social problems throughout our society.

We further urge the Government , that these deteriorating conditions which they have created , can only further hamper the social and economic fabric of society and therefore the worsening social and economic conditions require an immediate  political solution , which is,  returning to the polls in the soonest possible time so as to give the people an opportunity to choose a Government of their choice.
