Beware of the local Sanballat, warns Premier Parry

Charlestown, Nevis, October 30th, 2012  -- “Irrespective of whichever yardstick you use, we contend that the NRP is best for Nevis at this time,” Party Leader and Premier of Nevis, the Hon. Joseph Parry told Nevisians and residents at Sunday’s Nevis Reformation Party’s (NRP) 2012 Convention.

The Convention, held under the theme, NRP – Best for Nevis drew hundreds including returning nationals to the Nevis Performing Arts Center.

Using a cricketing analogy, in reference to the upcoming Nevis local elections, Parry, a former President of the Nevis Cricket Association (NCA) said, “When it comes to the future of this country, you cannot spin a toss and hope for heads or tails. Nevis is not a lucky dip! This is a clear, commonsense decision that has got to be made.”

He contended that the other side (CCM) is yet to advance a clear, credible approach to tackling, far less resolving the challenges confronting Nevis.

“They would want you to believe that they have a plan for this country, but we know better.”

He talked about the bible, linking the opposition CCM’s Mark Brantley and Vance Amory to Sanballat: “Like Sanballat of the Old Testament they find fault with every Project, with every effort this Government makes to economically develop this country,” the Nevisian leader said of CCM’s co-leaders, who with growing regularity have taken several baffling anti-Nevisian postures on matters of a national interest.

“We build the island main road. The culverts are too small. We remove dangerous corners. We are destroying the history of the island. We bring Brown Hill Communications with 240 persons employed.

We should have kept Clear Harbour with 5 employees and a mountain of debt still unpaid in this country.”

Parry described Sanballat as a schemer, a mischief maker, but who was hopelessly inept at constructive thought.

“We do not need another Sanballat on Nevis,” he said.

In describing the Sanballat in Mark Brantley, Premier Parry said, “Just a week ago our local Sanballat using characteristically standard English, for the first time unfolded his great plan for Nevis... A Dog Farm.”

He said that while there was nothing essentially wrong with a dog farm, there were several unanswered questions. Where will he sell the Pitbulls and Doberman dogs? How many on Nevis, how many in Antigua, Barbados? Who will run the Farm? The graduates of the Sixth and Fifth Forms who Vance Amory claimed are unemployed?

“ It took a genius like Sanballat (Brantley) to unfold to the people of Nevis his solution to the employment problem,” Premier Parry said to refrains from the lively crowd of ...“Who let the dogs out?”

Parry said Brantley’s latter-day Lieutenant, (Vance Amory) after 14 years in office (1992-2006) and fourteen promises, 14 broken promises of 14 hotels, now says he will provide a hotel – a Five Star, a Four Star, Any Star, a good quality hotel - another among the pie in the sky projects of CCM.

He urged his supporters to guard against false promises by the local Sanballats.

“They have no plans, but many promises”, Parry said of the CCM.
