BASSETERRE, St. Kitts, October 30th 2012 (CUOPM) – Two interceptor vessels - PB 04 Hermitage Bay and PB 05 Oualie Bay, will dramatically enhance the  security force’s ability to aggressively pursue, and resolutely apprehend, those who attempt to either corrupt, destabilize, or promote crime and violence throughout the Federation and within the territorial waters.

So said St. Kitts and Nevis’ Prime Minister, the Right Hon. Dr. Denzil L. Douglas, as he accepted the two vessels from the Barbados-based United States Ambassador to St. Kitts and Nevis and the Eastern Caribbean, His Excellency Mr. Larry Palmer.

Dr. Douglas told Ambassador Palmer that the vessels along with two trailers, a Pick-up truck and assorted spares serve as key components of the Secure Seas Package,” and we look forward to our ongoing collaboration and cooperation with the United States of America in a range of initiatives to advance peace and security throughout our region.”

Prime Minister Douglas, who has responsibility for the Police and the Defence Force, thanked the United States of America, for the steadfast commitment that it has repeatedly shown to the peace and security of the Caribbean region in recent years.

“President Barack Obama had made it clear to the leaders of this region, very early in his administration, the seriousness with which he intended to handle the issue of regional peace and security. And this commitment, I must say, particularly with reference to St. Kitts and Nevis, the President has kept – time and time again,” said Prime Minister Douglas.

He also praised the “pro-active, results-oriented approach of U.S. Ambassador, His Excellency Mr. Larry Palmer, in shepherding and undergirding of this important bilateral relationship.”

“Your presence, Mr. Ambassador, has been a boon to our Government’s commitment to advance greater efficiency, effectiveness, and efficacy in the maintenance of law and order, and for this we thank you,” Dr. Douglas said.
