More than 10 plead guilty to traffic offences

    BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – MORE than 10 individuals – who appeared before the Traffic Court on Thursday, last (Nov. 1), submitted that they were guilty of the traffic violations for which they were accused and were ordered to pay fines in excess of $3 000.

     

    The individuals stood before Chief Magistrate Her Worship Josephine Mallalieu-Webbe at the Sir Lee Llewellyn Moore Judicial and Legal Complex.

     

    Cashmore Joyce of Verchilds – who was accused of soliciting passengers by blowing his motor omnibus horn – was fined $250 which was to have been paid forthwith or – in default – a 14-day custodial sentence would be imposed. The offence was committed on May 10, 2012.

     

    Having admitted to failing to comply with a traffic sign, Ephraim Henderson of Sandy Point was cautioned. And for exceeding the speed limit, he was fined $300 to be paid forthwith or serve 14 days imprisonment. The offences were committed on May 15, 2012 and April 9, 2012 respectively.

     

    Clarence Warner of Ponds Estate told the court that on August 7, 2012 he failed to wear his seatbelt while operating a vehicle. And a $300 fine had to be paid by him forthwith, or serve time at Her Majesty’s Prison.

     

    Main Street, Dieppe Bay resident Charles Duggins was fined $250 for a January 19, 2012 offence of operating a cellular phone while driving a vehicle.

     

    A $300 fine had to be paid forthwith by Buckleys Site resident Arthur Bradshaw, who pleaded guilty to a December 9, 2011 offence of operating a cellular phone while driving a vehicle.

     

    Dexter Warner of The Alley, Sandy Point was also charged with the same offence and was issued a $250-fine.

     

    A $250-fine was to be paid forthwith by Terrance Huggins of West Farm for a February 2, 2012 offence of failing to comply with a traffic sign.

     

    Cliffroy Maynard of Newtown Ground was fined a total of $400 for two counts of failing to comply with traffic signs. The offences were committed on May 14, 2012 and August 21, 2012. The sum was to be paid forthwith or in default serve one week in jail.

     

    He was also fined $100 for a May 21, 2012 offence of failing to comply with the directions of a police officer.

     

    For an August 9, 2012 offence of driving off the bus route, Brian Prentice was fined $250 to be paid forthwith or serve 14 days in prison.

     

    Lozack Road resident Purcel Hope – for failing to remove broken down vehicle – was fined $300. Failure to pay the fine forthwith could attract custodial sentencing. The offence was committed on May 8, 2012.

     

    Shervin McCurdy of Douglas Estate and Jarvied Henry of Cunningham Village, Cayon were accused of separate counts of driving without due care and attention. And while McCurdy was fined $300 to be paid forthwith, Henry was cautioned.

     

    Henry was also charged with failure to stop at the scene of an accident and was cautioned. His offences were committed on August 6, 2012. McCurdy’s offence occurred on January 2, 2012.

     

    Appearing before and having his case heard by Her Worship Janine Harris, Larue Laplace of Sandy Point was convicted of driving without due care and attention and fined $650.

     

    The sum is to be paid within one month or a one-month custodial sentence would be imposed. The offence was committed on August 11, 2012.
