BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – YESTERDAY (Nov. 5) saw a renewal of the rivalry between St. Kitts and Antigua/Barbuda during the 2011 NAGICO Leeward Islands Cricket Association 50 overs Tournament, with the latter drawing first blood.
In the tournament currently taking place in St. Maarten, the St. Kitts team went down to Antigua and Barbuda chasing a modest score.
Batting first, Antigua and Barbuda were bowled out for 196 from 44.3 overs.
It was reported that the Antigua/Barbuda innings contained 158 dot balls and the bowling effort was commended by team St. Kitts’ coach Donald ‘Dongo’ Farrell.
In reply, St. Kitts were only able to mount 135 on the board with significant scores from Shane Jeffers (31), Elsroy Powell (20) and Norval McCall unbeaten on 21.
Coach Farrell, speaking on Talking Sports on Monday, stated that they had some positives coming out of the game but their batting let them down in a big way.
He noted that the team is looking forward to winning their second game and also the Twenty/20 finals.
The team is expected to play against St. Maarten in a must win encounter today (Nov. 6) if they were to have any hopes of qualifying for the Semi Finals to be played on Friday.
The Finals of the Leeward Island’s Twenty/20 to be replayed between Antigua/Barbuda and St. Kitts has been rescheduled for Thursday (Nov. 8).
