St. Kitts progress to Semi-finals in NAGICO Cricket Tournament

    BASSETERRE, ST. Kitts – ST. KITTS have progressed to the Semi-finals of the NAGICO 50-Overs Cricket Tournament following an improved performance from team members in the final preliminary game of the competition to beat St. Maarten by 66 runs.
     
    In a must win game for St. Kitts, they won the toss and chose to bat first setting a total of 249 for 8 wickets off 50 overs. The experienced Shane Jeffers topped the batting order with 57, Elsroy Powell contributed 44, Steve Liburd and team captain Jacques Taylor each added 34 runs.

     

    Bowling for St. Maarten, Keroy Davis finished with figures of one for 56 runs and Romain Doodnauth picked up two for 33.

     

    In reply, St. Maarten were only able to make 183 all out off 46.1 overs with Moreland Le Blanc top scoring with 73 and Damien Williams contributing 22.

     

    For St. Kitts, Calvin Williams picked up two wickets for 17 runs, Shane Jeffers two for 28 and Norval McCall was the pick of the bowlers with four wickets for 43 runs.

     

    The win means St. Kitts will progress to the Semi-finals and have to face Anguilla, the team that thrashed Nevis on Tuesday by some 227 runs.

     

    The Semi-finals and Finals will be played on Friday (Nov. 9) and Saturday (Nov. 10) respectively at the Carib Lumber Park in St. Maarten.

     

    The Finals of the Leeward Island’s Twenty/20 between Antigua/Barbuda and St. Kitts will be played tomorrow (Nov. 8).
