Kajola Kristada employees freshen Industrial Site

By: Jenise Ferlance, SKNVibes.com

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts - IF one happened to walk or drive pass the Industrial Site yesterday afternoon (Nov. 7), one would have noticed a group of people busy cleaning the area, seemingly from Parks and Beaches...but they were not.

They were none other than the employees of Kajola Kristada.

Donning their 'workers vests' and  fitted with brooms, rakes, machetes, leaf blowers, weed eaters and trash bags, Kajola employees took to the streets of the Industrial Site on mission to clean the area, all in an effort to promote safety.

The employees cleaned the drains, cut grass, blew away leaves, chopped down bushes, picked up trash and made the Industrial Site more sanitary for everyone.

The cleanup, which began at 4:30 p.m. and spanned the entire Industrial Site, was just one of the activities that the company had as part of their Safety Week celebration.

Quality Assurance Technician and member of Kajola's Safety Week Committee Charles Hudson explained to this media house the reason for the area cleanup and safety promotion.

He said the company hosts a week of activities every year as part of their Safety Week, and this year it chose not to focus only on the physical safety but the health aspect as well.

He said that the cleanup is to help bring awareness that if one's surrounding is not clean and well kept, it could affect one’s health.

"Safety is not just about the physical aspect but the internal aspect as well. If you do not keep your surroundings clean, that could lead to health hazards which also affect your safety," he said.

Kajola's Safety Week commenced on November 4, 2012 with a Church Service at the Immaculate Conception Co-Cathedral Catholic Church in Basseterre.

The week continued with two doctors - Andrew Holness and Patrick Martin - who spoke to the employees on the topic of cancer, one speaking specifically on Breast Cancer while the other took the general approach.

Safety Week would close with a Concert where the employees would be using safety to entertain others in song, poetry, drama and modelling.

Kajola’s Annual Safety Week commenced six years ago when General Manager Jose Rosa re-enforced their Safety Policy, and it is hoped that other companies within the C.A. Paul Southwell Industrial Site would do the same.
