Businesses in St. Kitts to be schooled on enhancing customer service

By: Precious Mills, SKNVibes.com

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts - IMPROVING customer service will be the focus of a free four-day workshop (Nov. 19-22) organised by the National Entrepreneurial Development Division (NEDD), the business support arm of the Ministry of International Trade, Industry, Commerce and Consumer Affairs, in collaboration with the Development Bank of St. Kitts and Nevis.

The workshop will be held at the Ocean Terrace Inn (OTI) - located at Fortlands - on the topic “Enhancing Customer service Delivery for Micro, Small, and Medium-sized Enterprises in St. Kitts”.

It will run from 9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. daily.

Business Development Officer of NEDD, Philip Browne informed SKNVibes about the upcoming workshop.

This seminar is targeting individuals at managerial level who, according to Browne, are “positioned to manage, influence and create customer service delivery strategies”.

Browne pointed out that instead of targeting workers who provide the traditional form of customer service, such as receptionists who answer telephone calls, the idea is to get business workers who could actually sit down with his or her staff and come up with ideas on how to improve customer service delivery.

Asked about the importance of attending the workshop, Browne said, “To my mind, in these difficult economic times, it comes down to having repeat business…keeping customers.”

He outlined that every business has a product, noting that it is important however to have a reason why customers would keep coming back, which boils down to the environment of the business.

“If small businesses are to get that competitive edge, it is important for them to have competitive customer service strategies,” he opined.

The facilitator of the workshop would be Wendy Phipps of Trinity Consulting and following the workshop, the participants would be awarded certificates.

CDB’s training arm is called the Caribbean Technological Consultancy Services (CTCS) and Phipps was trained by that agency.

Registration forms can be collected from the Caribbean Credit Card Corporation (Four Cs) building, which is located at Bladen’s Commercial Development. Additionally, person can call 467-1203 and ask for Lyndis Harris or contact Browne on 467-1635.

Interested persons could also contact Shavon Douglas at the Development Bank (465-2288) for further information and registration.

Deadline for registration is Thursday (Nov.15).
