BASETERRE, ST. KITTS, NOVEMBER 14TH 2012 (CUOPM) – Prime Minister the Rt. Hon. Dr. Denzil L. Douglas says the security detail attached to him is “very minimal” and that he is a very peaceful man and has never owned a firearm.

He was at the time responding to a telephone caller who informed him of statements alleged to have been made by former minister Mr. G.A. Dwyer Astaphan on the weekend.

“The security that I have around me is very minimal. I am not certain what level of security (Dr. (the Rt. Honourable Sir Kennedy) Simmonds) as prime minister had around him, but I know compared to what I see in other countries, the security that I have around me is exceptionally minimal and so I do not know what the former minister is referring to, according to the caller,” said Dr. Douglas.

“Do I have a firearm?  I have never owned a firearm. I have never carried a firearm. There is no need for me to carry a firearm. There is no need for me to own a firearm. So if the former minister, according to the caller, is carrying a firearm, or has used his firearm, I am not in that league. I consider myself to be a very peaceful man and I don’t see any need to carry a firearm,” said Prime Minister Douglas during his weekly radio programme “Ask the Prime Minister” on Tuesday.
