BASSETERRE, St. Kitts - THE hospitality of the Kittitian and Nevisian people can lead the Federation hosting more international cricket event, according to the West Indies Cricket Board’s (WICB) new Chief Executive Officer, Michael Muirhead.

Muirhead, who is currently on a Caribbean-wide programme of visits to introduce himself as the WICB’s new CEO to the West Indian people, media and stakeholders of the sport, arrived in St. Kitts yesterday (Nov. 14) and met with Prime Minister the Rt. Hon. Dr. Denzil Douglas, Minister of Tourism Hon. Richard Skerritt and Minister of Sport Hon. Glenn Phillip before meeting with the media at Warner Park.

The new CEO told media practitioners of the warmth and incomparable reception he and Corporate Communications Officer Imran Khan received when they arrived in St. Kitts.

He also made mention of the unparallel hospitality shown by the people when players come to the Federation to play game.

“I note with a keen sense that when it comes with showing hospitality to cricketers and with teams in general, I understand that really St. Kitts is unparallel in that regard which must play a part in the decisions that are being made; and it is one that I take very seriously. As much as I don’t make the ultimate decisions, I certainly can influence them and I take note of what has been said thus far,” he commented.

Muirhead also said that he has accepted what he described as an awesome responsibility, but one which he takes with all seriousness, and a commitment to do his utmost to ensure the mandate that has been given to him could be fulfilled.

President of the St. Kitts Cricket Association Auckland Hector congratulated Murihead on his appointment and wished him a productive and enjoyable stint in that office.

He added that there is still a lot of work to be done, despite the recent successes, in order to implement the overall plan as outlined by the Board in its 2011-2016 Strategic Plan.

Hector also warned him of the challenges he is expected to face in taking over the new job, but however expressed his confidence that with the help of all the Territorial Boards they could overcome them.

He also assured him that he could depend on the support of the St. Kitts Cricket Association.

President of the Leeward Island’s Cricket Association Gregory Shillingford welcomed the new CEO and stated that his main task is to follow up on the work started by his predecessor and the Board, and also to address the relationship between the WICB and the Territorial Boards.
