NACAC 10k Run set for Sunday

    BASSETERRE, St, Kitts – THE twin-island Federation of St. Kitts and Nevis are preparing itself to host the fifth leg of the NACAC 10k Caribbean Series on Sunday (Nov. 18) commencing at 4:00 p.m.

     

    The series began in September and has already seen races held in the Dominican Republic, Tortola, British Virgin Islands, Antigua and Martinique.

     

    The local leg of the NACAC 10k Caribbean series is organised in accordance with the International Competition Regulations of the International Athletics Federation (IAAF) under the supervision of St Kitts-Nevis Amateur Athletics Association.

     

    The race is open to all athletes, licensed or non-licensed of any nationality, born in or before 1996 or at the discretion of the Organising Authority with the runners competing in the race at their own liability and responsibility.

     

    The NACAC 10k measures 10 000 meters and respects the International Regulations for road races (IAAF) and also the national requirements outlined by the Road Racing Committee.

     

    The race will start in Verchilds Village and participants will run along the Island’s Main Road to Basseterre.

     

    The roads are open, the course is measured on the left hand side of the road and the participants are encouraged to run with the traffic.

     

    The lead motorcycle will travel on the left hand side. However the centre line of the road is not marked and there will be no penalty for crossing over the road.

     

    Runners are expected to respect the Highway Code and enter the event at their own risk and should have previous experience in racing on open roads.

     

    Mile markers will be seen in white paint on the road and water stops will be provided at miles two and four. Also, water will be provided at the finish line.

     

    Registration forms are available from SKNAAA and applicants will be accepted up until the close of registration at 3:20 p.m. on the day of the race.

     

    Athletes are encouraged to pre-register to ensure eligibility and on time for the start of the race.

     

    A tour of the race course will be held at 4:30 p.m. on Saturday (Nov. 17).

     

    All participants will receive a race medal at the finish line.
