BASSETERRE, St. Kitts - WEST INDIES opening batsman Nevisian Kieran Powell wrote his name in the record books with his second hundred of the match against Bangladesh in the first of the two Test series.

Powell followed his 117 on the opening day of the Test with 110, which signalled a 189-partnership with compatriot Darren Bravo who helped the West Indies team reach 244-6 at the end of the fourth day with a lead of 215 with only one day remaining.

He became the ninth West Indian to score two centuries in a single Test after getting a patient second innings knock.

Powell followed in the footsteps of the late great George Headley (twice), Everton Weekes, Clyde Walcott (twice), Garfield Sobers, Rohan Kanhai, Lawrence Rowe, Gordon Greenidge and Brian Lara, as West Indies batsmen that have scored hundreds in each innings of a Test.

Left-arm spinner Shakib Al-Hasan induced an edge from Powell to end his knock, which included 12 fours and a six, and trapped first innings centurion Denesh Ramdin for five.

On his march to that century, Powell was put down on 17 by Junaid Siddique at second slip.

At the end of the day’s play, he expressed his confidence for the team to get a win.

He also spoke about his second innings’ knock.

“The previous night, our massage therapist told me this was the perfect opportunity to do something like this. I know this is a rear feat and I am fortunate it has happened for me.”

The regional side lead by 215 runs going into the final day, but with the ill Shivnarine Chanderpaul uncertain to bat tomorrow, there is hardly any batting left.
