BASSETERRE, St. Kitts - ALISTAIR 'JABAL' ISAAC appeared before Justice Paul Dennis today (Nov. 16) and was given a 12-year prison sentence after being convicted of robbery and wounding with intent on November 8, 2012.

Isaac was convicted of robbing Susan Woodham of EC$777, US$142, one Samsung cell phone and one Nokia cell phone, all to the value of $1,535.80. He was also charged with wounding her with a knife with the intention of doing grievous bodily harm.

The offence was committed on July 26, 2012.

Before sentencing the convict, Justice Dennis chastised Isaac for his "nasty record".

Making reference to his 19 previous convictions, the judge told Isaac that he had 19 chances to rehabilitate himself to which he made no effort and did not seize the opportunity.

Although in prison, Isaac is still facing charges for escaping lawful custody and possession of a firearm and ammunition.

The Neverson Street, Newtown resident, while he was on remand for the robbery and wounding with intent charges, escaped custody on August 16, 2012 when he was taken to the JNF Hospital by an officer of Her Majesty’s Prison, where he was expected to have some part of his anatomy X-rayed.

He was found approximately three weeks later on the evening of September 6 in the area of West Independence Square Street.  A firearm and ammunition were recovered from his person.

Isaac would be serving 12 years for each count - robbery and wounding with intent - which would run concurrently.
