Kieran Powell named Man of Match; West Indies win first Test

    BASSETERRE, St. Kitts - West Indies opening batsman Kieran Powell was adjudged Man of the Match for his century knocks in both innings of the first Test match between the Caribbean side and Bangladesh.

     

    The performance of the Nevisian star batsman was the best in his career thus far, moving his batting average from 25 to 33.13 runs per innings.

     

    Powell now has 762 runs in his 12 Test with two half centuries and three centuries, with the highest being 134 scored in the first innings.

     

    Defending 245 runs on the final day, West Indies dismissed Bangladesh for 167, securing a 77-run victory to go one up in the two-Test series.

     

    Tino Best claimed 5 for 24; his first five-wicket haul.

     

    This West Indies win is their fifth in nine Tests against Bangladesh. Four of these wins came in matches played in Bangladesh

     

    The second Test match will start on Wednesday (Nov. 21) at Sheikh Abu Naser Stadium in Khulna.
