Press Release

BRADES, Montserrat, November 20th, 2012 – The Health Promotions Unit within the Ministry of Health & Social Services will be hosting a World AIDS Day Walk on Saturday December 01, 2012 and is encouraging all businesses and individuals to Go Red and “Take action for Zero New HIV Infections".

Every year, the first of December is used to raise awareness of the global AIDS epidemic, to support the millions that are living with HIV/AIDS, and to remember those who have died. World AIDS Day was created by the World Health Organization in 1988 to build international cooperation for the fight against HIV and AIDS.

This year the Ministry of Health and Social Services will take the lead in collaboration with the Montserrat Red Cross to mark the 21st Annual Observance of World AIDS Day with a Healthy Lifestyle & Awareness Walk.  The purpose of this day is to bring together all sectors of society in solidarity for the fight against AIDS and chronic diseases.

The walk is expected to start at the Faith Tabernacle Car Park in Brades to the Culture Centre, commencing at 4:00 pm. On arrival at Cultural Centre, there will be short speeches by group representatives, after which participants will be involved in a balloon release activity.

The ministry would like business owners to encourage their employees to wear something RED on the Friday (30th November) that precedes World AIDS Day.  Let’s take action for zero new HIV infections.
