New Indian High Commissioner presents credentials to PM Douglas

BASSETERRE, ST. KITTS, NOVEMBER 20TH 2012 (CUOPM) – The Republic of India has expressed sincere gratitude to St. Kitts and Nevis’ Prime Minister, the Rt. Hon. Dr. Denzil L. Douglas for the twin-island Federation’s support in elections to the  United Nations restructuring including the Security Council.
 
“We are separated by distance but history binds us together. Both the countries peacefully and successfully emerged as democratic nations from the colonial past and today we share common views on most of the issues in United Nations and other international organizations,” said India’s Non-Resident High Commissioner to St. Kitts and Nevis His Excellency Mr. Puran Mal Meen in presenting his credentials to Prime Minister Douglas.
 
In presenting Prime Minister Douglas with Letters of Commission from India’s President the Hon. Pranab Mukherjee accrediting him as High Commissioner to the Federation of St. Kitts and Nevis, Mr. Meen also presented letters of Recall of his predecessor.
 
“I take this opportunity to convey to Your Excellency the warm greetings and best wishes from the Honourable President of India to Your Excellency for the personal well-being and for the continued peace and prosperity of the people of your beautiful country of St. Kitts and Nevis,” he said.
 
The Indian diplomat said it was “heartening to know that the small Indian community in St. Kitts and Nevis is engaged in small businesses and has progressed a lot and has helped in development of the economy of St. Kitts and Nevis.”
 
Mr. Meen promised to further expand cooperation with the friendly people of St. Kitts and Nevis with his guidance, support and interaction.
 
The new Indian High Commissioner to St. Kitts and Nevis was appointment to Indian Foreign Service in August 1982 and has had previous assignments in Baghdad, Riyadh, Yemen and London.
 
As High Commissioner of India to Guyana, he is also accredited to Antigua and Barbuda and the CARICOM Secretariat in Guyana.
