Press Release

St. Johns,  Antigua,  November 22nd, 2012 - Backed by a noisy home crowd Antigua/ Barbuda turned back  Anguilla in straight sets (25-22; 25-19 and 25- 22) despite a sterling effort from the visitors. It was the curtains game of opening night of the of the   East Caribbean Volleyball Association Senior Women Championship and  was the most competitive of the night.

Coach of the Anguilla team Jason Liburd  was not happy at all after the defeat. " Close games like these are really decided by who makes the most mistakes at crucial times and we did just that. Too many easy points given up really hurt," he lamented.

Captain Susan Tackling was a little more upbeat."I know that we fought hard and I am very proud of the young girls who have just started on this volleyball journey," she said.

Captain of the Antigua team- Shauna Isaac was grateful for the home court advantage. "I think the support from the crowd made us put out a greater effort . We did not want to disappoint them so we gave our best effort. Now having said that I think that we can even play better," she said.

Coach Esron Gittens of Antigua  felt that his squad was very positive from the onset. "We had a plan, we knew what we wanted to do and for the most part we executed it. There were a few lapses on occasions and that accounted for the close margins in the games," he said.

Antigua/Barbuda's Naheema Wilson led her team-mates on the points table with 11 points while Susan Tackling of BVI had 16  points to register the best scorer but ended on the losing team.
