BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – MEMBERS of the Ross Staff Association of the Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine yesterday morning (Dec. 5) handed over four flat screen desktop computers to the Irish Town Primary School during a ceremony held at the school’s compound in Irish Town.

The donation was made as part of the Association’s Week of Activities (Dec. 2-8) under the theme: “Standing together to Create our Own Opportunity.”

The Association’s members in attendance were Candice Caines (President) Talvert Pyke (Vice President), Yvonne Cotton (Public Relations Officer) and Sheridan Hendrickson (Communication Specialist at Ross University).

The school’s Principal, Jean Nisbett-Boddie, expressed that the staff and students were grateful for the donation and told the media that on Tuesday (Dec. 4) inmates of the Her Majesty’s Prison painted the inside of the laboratory and she is thankful for the assistance.

Education Officer Debbie Isaac of the Ministry of Education also thanked Ross University for the generous donation.

“We want you to use computer to educate yourself”, she said to the students present at the ceremony, while noting there would be time to play games but emphasised the importance of using the technological gifts for educational purposes.

She further described the donation as a “wonderful gesture”.

Isaac encouraged that the items be taken care of so that the Association could donate more items in the future.

Candice Caines, President of Ross Staff Association, told the students that she “loved” her experience she was a student of that school.

Speaking about the donation, Caines saw it as a “good gesture” in doing a community outreach project.

She informed the media that three computers were donated to the school earlier this year.

Events held during the Week of Activities included were a Church Service held Sunday (Dec. 2) at the Faith Tabernacle Church, a Karaoke Session at 17 Degrees on the following day, and on Tuesday (Dec. 4) the group adopted a space on the university campus to clean up. That space was pond area, where some plants and trees were planted.

This Saturday (Dec. 8), Ross University will be having a Staff Cocktail Reception at the Palm Court Garden.
