"LIME honours National Scholars at 26th Academic Excellence Awards Ceremony

    BASSETERRE, St. Kitts, December 6th, 2012 – Fifty-four students from St. Kitts and Nevis will be awarded Certificates of Recognition for their outstanding performance in the 2012 overseas examinations during the 26th Academic Excellence Recognition Awards Ceremony on this Friday (December 07,) at 7 pm.

     

    The unique, exclusive, LIME sponsored event will be held at the St. Kitts Marriott Beach Resort and forms part of an academic excellence project coordinated by the Chamber of Industry and Commerce and the Ministry of Education.  This annual event is part of the teleco’s commitment to among other things; promote the principles of excellence among high school students as well as the promotion of higher standards of teaching. 

     

    “It is important to take time out to honour and motivate our young people as well as the teachers who have all performed so creditably. We are pleased to be partnering with the Chamber and the Ministry in this premiere event on the academic calendar,” said David Lake, General Manager, LIME. “On behalf of the entire LIME team I extend congratulations to all the awardees,” he continued.

     

    Among the students to be honoured are Ms Tishanna Hazel, the Federation’s State Scholar, Ms Shanice Liburd the First Runner up and Mr Wricherly Gumbs the Second Runner-up State Scholars, and Ms Thérèse Wilson-Rawlins, who received best results in the CXC examinations.

     

    There will also be awardees from the varying divisions of the Clarence Fitzroy Bryant College, and teacher awardees from eight secondary schools within the Federation, in appreciation of their invaluable contribution to the educational development of the students.

     

    The guest speaker for the 26th Academic Excellence Recognition Awards ceremony is Dr Marcus Natta, Senior Project Analyst in the Ministry of Sustainable Development and a lecturer of the Advanced Pure Mathematics, Construction Mathematics, and Engineering Science in the Division of Arts, Science and General Studies at the Clarence Fitzroy Bryant College. 

     

    Dr Natta also serves as a CFBC representative on the St. Kitts-Nevis Accreditation Board.  It is expected that Prime Minister Douglas will also be in attendance along with Ministry of Education officials, representatives of the Chamber and representatives of LIME.
