Basseterre, St. Kitts, December 6th, 2012 -- Thousands of Kittitians and Nevsians at home and abroad expected to take full advantage of the DOUGI this Christmas.
The St. Kitts-Nevis Labour Party Administration announced on Thursday, December 6th, 2012, that for the remainder of the month of December (December 7 to 31), all citizens would be eligible to benefit from Duty Off Ur Goods Imported (DOUGI), a special December duty-free policy.
The policy is as follows: for imported food packages (whether accompanied or unaccompanied), the first 400lbs will be exempted from Import Duty, VAT, and Customs Service Charge (equates to approximately 3 barrels).
Additionally, for persons who travel abroad whether by air or by sea, upon returning to the Federation, they will benefit from a duty-free allowance for the first EC$540.00 (US$200.00) per passenger for the remainder of the month of December 2012.
This applies to non-food items such as purchases for personal use (excluding alcohol or tobacco) and in order to benefit from the allowance, these items must accompany the traveler. Only food packages shipped separately from travelers will receive the allowance.
Finally, all items that qualify for the DOUGI need to arrive into the Federation before December 31, 2012.
